Description There are several unmet needs experienced by patients with migraine who receive care from physiatrists. In addition to experiencing major disease burdens, patients with migraine may be underdiagnosed. Delayed or incorrect diagnoses can result in delayed care and further illness burden. Several new therapies for the acute treatment and prevention of migraine have become available in recent years. Physiatrists may also be challenged to select the most appropriate therapy for patients with migraine, in consideration of individual disease and patient characteristics. This educational activity will address knowledge and competence gaps related to recognizing disease burdens, providing timely diagnosis, and selecting appropriate treatment for patients with migraine.
Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the disease burdens and unmet needs among patients with migraine.
- Apply screening and diagnostic tools to provide timely diagnosis of migraine.
- Select acute and preventive migraine therapies that are tailored to patient and disease factors.
