Description
This session will include 3 distinct topics to broaden the pediatric physiatrist's knowledge of unique programs and resources around the country. Topics will include: an outpatient multidisciplinary program for functional neurologic disorder (FND), addressing benefits and barriers to this type of program; a Global Rehabilitation Interdisciplinary Program (GRIP) addressing medical tourism and resources for international patients/families; and information/resources from the Courageous Parents Network (CPN), a nonprofit oganization that aims to provide family-friendly education for those caring for children with serious neurological illness.
Learning Objectives
- Learning Objective 1: Recognize the key challenges faced by caregivers of children with serious neurologic illness
- Learning Objective 2: Demonstrate how CPN helps caregivers feel empowered, informed, and less isolated through education and shared decision making
- Learning Objective 3: Describe how outpatient care of children with FND can be driven through a multi disciplinary clinic model
- Learning Objective 4: Discuss advantages and potential barriers to an outpatient multi disciplinary approach to children with FND
- Learning Objective 5: Describe a model of rehabilitation services delivered to patients traveling to the United States at a single institution.
- Learning Objective 6: Discuss insights and challenges related to therapy approaches, bracing, and equipment management for patients traveling to the United States
