Description
Injuries are common among performing artists, yet they often go unrecognized or misdiagnosed due to a lack of familiarity or confidence in treating this unique population. This series of brief lectures, given by residents, fellow physicians, and attendings experienced in evaluating and treating performs, aims to introduce medical students to the field of Performing Arts Medicine while also providing clinical insights for physiatrists who may not regularly encounter this population.
Learning Objectives
- Learning Objective Identify the most prevalent musculoskeletal and neurological injuries affecting performing artists and understand their unique risk factors.
- Learning Objective 2: Introduce the principles of Performing Arts Medicine and its relevance to physiatry.
- Learning Objective 3: Develop a foundational approach to evaluating and treating performing artists, including considerations for rehabilitation and return to performance.
- Learning Objective 4: Provide physiatrists with insights and strategies to better support performing artists, even in general clinical settings.
