WatchME Instructional Video: Ultrasound-Guided Botulinum Toxin Injections with Needle In-Plane: Upper Limb Targets
Description

This educational activity was first released in October 2018. Prior to the CME expiring in October 2021, the activity was reviewed by members of the CME Committee to ensure the educational content is still clinically relevant and accurate, meets a professional and/or educational need, and serves to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession. Upon review, it was determined this video met each criteria and the CME was renewed for another three years.

This instructional video will cover the rationale, ergonomic challenges, and augmentations forultrasound guidance with needle in-plane technique for upper limb ultrasound guided Botulinum toxininjections. Demonstrations within this video include how to properly performthe procedure for the following upper limb targets: FCR, FCU, all four FDPmuscles (via 1 injection site), all four FDS muscles (via 2 separate injectionsites), and FPL.

Learning Objectives
After completing this enduring material, the participant should be able to:
  • Describe the rationale for needle in-plane ultrasound guidance for the upper limb botulinum toxin injections.
  • Identify the relevant anatomical landmarks, upper limb target muscles, and neurovascular structures to avoid when performing botulinum toxin injections.
  • Perform ultrasound-guided botulinum toxin injections with increased confidence when utilizing the needle in-plane technique.
Method of Study
Upon viewing this video, participants will need to complete a session evaluation, which includes a reflection on learning, in order to claim credit. The presentations can be viewed at one's own pace and credit can be claimed after viewing the individual sessions.
