Member May: Evidence-Based Assessment of Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy for Lumbar Spine Conditions (1.25 CME)
Description

Description

Lecture will aim to provide the current evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of autologous PRP therapy in treating lumbar spine disorders. It will examine the biologic rationale for the use of PRP to treat common lumbar spine conditions, such as degenerative disc disease, facet joint arthropathy, and lumbar radiculopathy. The lecture will present latest and key clinical studies, with a focus on randomized controlled trials to evaluate the effectiveness of PRP injections in alleviating low back pain and improving functional outcomes.

Key topics will include 1. RCTs on PRP to the disc, facet and epidural space 2. Discussion of the functional spine unit approach and current evidence for its use 3. Clinical decision making in the use of PRP for lumbar spine. The lecture will also address potential adverse effects associated with PRP therapy and discuss the limitations of current research, highlighting areas where further investigation is needed. By the end of the session, attendees should be equipped to make informed, evidence-based decisions regarding the integration of PRP therapy into clinical practice for managing lumbar spine conditions.

Learning Objectives

  • Learning Objective 1: Understand the rationale and pathophysiology for the use of biologics for low back pain
  • Learning Objective 2: Acquire a knowledge of the key RCTs on the use of PRP for lumbar spine conditions
  • Learning Objective 3: Comprehend the functional spine unit approach in using Biologics for Low back pain
  • Learning Objective 4: Learn how to make informed clinical decision making in the use of PRP for Chronic LBP
