Description
This session would explore how visual impairment alters biomechanics, spatial awareness, communication, and injury mechanisms in an adaptive sport setting, and how these factors may impact the way physiatrists approach: Pre-participation screening, Injury prevention, Sideline and clinic evaluation, and Return-to-sport decision-making The content would combine a brief review of the literature with some practical, case-based examples from competitive adaptive sports to give physiatrists tools they can apply immediately.
Learning Objectives
After completing this live activity, the participant should be able to:
- Describe common injury patterns and risk factors in athletes with blindness and low vision.
- Apply practical modifications to sports medicine evaluation and prevention strategies for visually impaired athletes.
- Discuss the opportunities and challenges involved in developing a connected LDPR network
