This session will be put on by the Running Medicine Member Community and will feature residents in training who are doing active research in running medicine and/or are passionate about running medicine and are well-versed in related topics. The goal of the session is to discuss updates in the literature, the current state of running medicine research, get to know up and coming running medicine specialists, and provide the opportunity for select trainees to practice oral presentation skills and networking within the national community. Presentations will cover topics in running medicine such as sun protection and skin cancer risk in endurance athletes, exertional leg pain, and community outreach programming to provide pertinent health education to high school runners.

 

Learning Objectives

After completing this live activity, the participant should be able to:

 

  • Identify gaps in sunscreen adherence and protective behaviors in training and competition settings in endurance athletes.
  • Describe one method for adolescent runner health education for injury prevention and health optimization.
  • Define exertional leg pain, differential diagnosis, and identify the potential for under diagnosis of popliteal artery entrapment syndrome.
  • Provide a networking opportunity for running medicine enthusiastic trainees and sports medicine physicians.
